Who Is Coming To Frequent Traveler University DC?

I’m headed to Frequent Traveler University this weekend, and am really looking forward to hopefully meeting many of you!

I have several sessions across both the "beginner" and "advanced" programs, as do many of the other speakers, so there should be something for everyone. A full schedule is available online, but here’s where you can find me over the weekend.

I certainly want to meet everyone and answer as many questions as possible, so please say hi. If I’m running down the hallway it’s not because I don’t want to talk to you -- I just don’t want to be late!

What US Airways Really Meant When it Tried To Clarify Elite Status Offer

American AAdvantage introduced a status buyback program and – as expected – US Airways Dividend Miles followed with its own a couple of weeks later. Now Dividend Miles has made some edits to their offer page. Now, I’m the last one in a position to criticize typos (!). But this one rather struck me. They […]

Air Canada’s Holiday Video — Free Tickets To Canada

On Tuesday I posted about WestJet's Christmas Miracle video, which was touching and adorable.

There's no doubt that WestJet has a great corporate culture, and this video is a reflection of that, as opposed to simply an opportunistic way to make themselves seem charitable.

That being said, I think WestJet's Christmas Miracle video from the year prior was more creative, which might explain why it went so viral.

Free college degree, passport needed

Know you can get your college degree for free? All you have to do is, you know, learn a new language so you can study in Germany. Staff writer Matt Hershberger says, at a time when the average debt load of the American college student is $29,400, it’s financially irresponsible to not study abroad.

It’s finally winter in most parts of the U.S., which means that many of us (me included) are already counting down to Spring Break. But, where should you go? When I think of Spring Break, I tend to think of a beach vacation over any other kind. Some soft white sand, a blowing breeze, and […]

The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts

The Mother Church

The Christian Science Plaza is a 14-acre site that is home to the headquarters of the Church of Christian Science, founded by Mary Baker Eddy in 1879.

The Plaza holds many buildings, the oldest being the original Mother Church of Christian Science which was built in 1894. The larger extension to the Original Mother Church was built in 1904 and collectively the two buildings are considered the First Church Of Christ, Scientist or simply, "The Mother Church." The Church has daily tours. The extension houses one of the world's largest pipe organs and sometimes there are free concerts. Even if you cannot get inside, a walk around the exterior of the Original Mother Church will show you some wonderful stained glass windows.

The Mary Baker Eddy Library, which houses the archives and a small museum of the founder is also part of the Plaza, as well as the world famous Mapparium. Other buildings that used to be the headquarters of the Christian Science Monitor and other arms of the Christian Science Publishing Society but some of these buildings are now used by other businesses.

The Plaza includes a collonade, a 670-foot reflecting pool and a fountain, the latter is often used by youngsters in the summer to keep cool.

You’re More Likely To Buy Food On A Plane If…

The Washington Post published an interesting piece today entitled "People around you control your mind: The latest evidence."

This piece is about a study that was done to test how the actions of those around you impact your decisions. And since it's such a controlled environment, they used buy on board airplane food purchases as the basis for the study:

"After analyzing a confidential database of passenger and time-stamped purchase records, a Stanford professor discovered that if someone next to you buys something on the plane, you’re 30 percent more likely to buy something yourself."
